Why the usual channels do not reach engineers
Developers are one of the most valuable B2B audiences and one of the hardest to buy. The reasons are structural, not a matter of creative quality:
- Ad blockers are the default. Adoption among technical audiences runs far ahead of the general population, so display inventory is billed as served and never seen.
- The work happens outside the browser. A backend engineer can spend an entire day in an editor and a terminal. No amount of web display buys that time.
- Interruption is punished. An engineer holding a mental model of a distributed system does not forgive a modal. Interruptive formats generate resentment, and resentment attaches to the brand, not the network.
What a developer impression is actually worth
Generic display CPMs are low because the audience is undifferentiated. A verified working software engineer is not that audience. When you are selling infrastructure, APIs, observability, or developer hardware, one qualified engineer at a moment of technical focus is worth more than a thousand untargeted pageviews, which is why developer-native inventory clears at a premium and should be judged against pipeline rather than against display benchmarks.
Set your CPM against what a qualified trial is worth to you, not against what a banner costs. On AdMyChat you set the rate and the daily cap yourself, and spend stops at the cap.
The three placements that work
- Editor sidebar. A theme-matching panel inside VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and VSCodium. Visible during real work, never over the code.
- AI chat rail. A single line under the prompt box on ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. The user is already waiting on a generation, which is the rare moment when attention is genuinely idle.
- Terminal status line. One clickable line in the Claude Code CLI prompt. No cursor movement, no redraw, no interruption.
Targeting that does not depend on surveillance
Most ad targeting is built from behavioural profiles assembled without consent. AdMyChat has none of that to sell, because it never reads source code, prompts, or file contents. Targeting is built from two consented inputs instead:
- Surface. Choose the editor, the AI chat, or the terminal. A CLI tool advertises well in a terminal and poorly in a chat rail.
- Declared interests. Developers pick their own interest categories in their wallet. An untargeted campaign serves to everyone; a targeted one serves only to developers whose declared interests overlap it.
Fewer, better-qualified impressions is the trade. That is the correct trade when a single conversion is worth four figures.
How billing works
You are billed for delivered engagement that survives fraud filtering, drawn from a prepaid balance. Datacenter IP addresses are rejected, repeated activity inside a short window is deduplicated, and every developer on the network was approved by an administrator individually before they could earn a cent. Your daily cap is enforced at serve time, so a campaign cannot overspend while you sleep.
Launching a campaign
- Create an advertiser account and fund a balance by card, PayPal, Wise, or bank wire.
- Write one headline and one line of copy. Space is deliberately small; specificity beats cleverness.
- Pick your surfaces and, optionally, your interest categories.
- Set a CPM and a daily cap, then watch delivery and click-through in the dashboard.
